Name emails separate from Subject line of email
L
Lee Busch
We need to be able to display emails by a descriptive name that suits the purposes of a marketer, not by the subject line of the email, as it currently exists. It's impossible to keep track of sent emails if I can't use internal language, numbering, coding, etc. The subject line is for the RECIPIENT, but the name of the email should be for the MARKETER. Two separate things.

Ability to enter a campaign name that is different from the subject line
AM Web
Under the list of emails, the campaigns we create/send automatically take the subject line as the campaign name. It would be helpful if we were able to distinguish the campaign name from the subject line.
This would help, for example, to distinguish campaigns when we send different campaigns with the same subject (e.g. in different languages, but with only one subject "Newsletter XYZ" for all languages). In this way, we would be able to add a prefix or suffix to the campaign names (e.g. "Newsletter XYZ - EN", "Newsletter XYZ - FR", "Newsletter XYZ - DE", etc.), without adding it to the subject (which would cause confusion and only be ugly to see for the newsletter recipients).

Hey everyone,
We hear you on how helpful it is to be able to assign internal campaign names for organizing operations, so I wanted to share some some news about positive movement in this direction.
Earlier this week with MailPoet 5.6.1 we launched an early preview version of the upcoming Gutenberg-based email editor. As one of the features it does offer the ability to assign an internal campaign name that's different from the email subject recipients would see, and you should see the internal campaign name appear in the "MailPoet > Emails" listing.
If you're interested - I'd love to hear from you whether that would suit your needs, or any other feedback about your experience.
Do note that the new editor is still in a very early version and does not have all of the features most users use in production campaigns (e.g. now it's limited to only Newsletters, and cannot reuse your existing email templates). If that's you - you may need to wait for this feature a bit longer while we improve the new editor over the coming year.
Unfortunately, at this time we do not have plans to implement it in the legacy MailPoet email editor.
You can try the new editor out by:
- Updating to MailPoet 5.6.1 or newer
- Going to MailPoet > Emails > New Email
- Clicking the "Down" arrow next to the "Newsletter > Create" button, and choosing "Create using the new email editor (Alpha)"
- Clicking the "New Email" text in the top-center of your screen
The "Campaign name" is an internal-only name, and will be shown in the "MailPoet > Emails" listing.
Campaign recipients will only see the email "Subject" field as normal, now available in the sidebar of the new email creation flow.

Tautvidas I picked Mailpoet mostly because of your current editor. I am not interested in a Guthenberg editor since I would like to see the email as it is sent.
But it's not important anymore, switching to another system after this subscription ends, since I am tired of paying ever higher fees when my number of subscribers grow.
Tautvidas
Hello Jonas Höglund, thank you for choosing MailPoet for your email marketing, and I'm grateful for your feedback.
I understand how important it is to you to ensure that your audiences see your emails exactly as you intended.
The team has put and will continue putting in a lot of care and attention to ensure that your subscribers see emails exactly as you designed them by thoroughly testing and ensuring compatibility with top email clients. We followed a similar approach with the current MailPoet email editor.
That said, the new editor will remain under heavy development, and the current editor will remain available for quite some time, so it shouldn't interrupt your workflows.
I'm glad to hear that you were able to successfully grow your audience with MailPoet, and I hope the trend continues with the new system.
Please let us know if we could help you with current or future projects.

MailPoet, what does "marked this post as open mean" ?
M
MailPoet
Johannes Ødegård we've moved it from the "Planned" status to an "Open" which is a default state for all feature requests, to better align with the current roadmap, which doesn't include this change.

MailPoet
Johannes Ødegård it might be in the future, but unfortunately, it's not on our roadmap at the moment.

MailPoet To hear of a delay on this is incredibly disappointing news for email marketing professionals. And professionals have an influence over who uses MailPoet.

Hi Lee Busch, thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it!
We anticipate to add internal campaign names later this year as part of a broader email creation experience refresh. We don't yet have more specific timelines, but more to come.
You mentioned looking to use internal numbering and coding - would you be open to sharing how you currently structure campaigns and how you'd hope to use numbering and coding?
E.g. would you look at sequencing drip campaigns, visually group multiple emails that are part of the same campaign but different variants are aimed at different audience segments, something different?

Tautvidas Thank you. Typically, I use some or all of the following in email/campaign names on platforms such as Mailchimp, AC, CK, etc:
• the purpose of the campaign
• the theme of the campaign
• Co-sponsors or co-participants, if relevant
• date (year, month or season, holiday, etc)
• position in sales or promo sequence, if I'm making the sequence up as I go, not as part of an automation.
• whether it's an ICYMI resend, follow-up, whether to openers, non-openers, etc
All these help me identify emails for reuse or statistical analysis, or to remember how it was targeted at a glance.
In other services, I can also put emails and sets into folders, and would like folders in MailPoet.
I'm not sure what you mean by sequencing drip campaigns, because you handle those emails inside the Automation process.
Right now my "Emails" list is an undifferentiated mess, and it's really unworkable. I will sometimes put "[keyword]" in the subject line, where it makes sense to my recipient, for example, if they are in a class, I'll put "[classname]" as part of the subject line — which helps both the student and me to identify emails. But that's an awkward, partial workaround.

Tautvidas I also use the internal name of the email as a variable when building lists (ie: was not sent "email x") or did not open "email y")
Johannes Ødegård
Tautvidas, any time for this?
Johannes Ødegård
yes!

This is importent!
